Dry Bones
I never in my life thought that a wonderful franchise, my FAVORITE, Banjo-Kazooie, could be ruined in the ######tiest way. I've almost burst into tears when I watched the trailer. What has happened? Is this what we have been waiting for? NUTS AND BOLTS? What kind of title and idea is this game? This is a DISGRACE to the Banjo Series! Absoloutly horrible!!

I'm sorry for everyone who thinks it will kick ass, but...
Banjo Kazooie and Banjo Tooie have always been my favorite games. I've waited 8 years, and this is what they've been busy making?

I can't wait till Rare pulls out the stick that Microsoft has butt fu*ked into them.

I swear, I give up on Rare.
Zenek
Before Rare-Extreme turns into a bloody civil war over who likes what, let me get a word in edge-wise, k?

You are all crapping on the Banjo game you have been yearning for all these years on a few screenshots and tiny snippets of clips. Here's a few suggestions:

1) Get over your Nintendo "Fan Boy" (for lack of a better term) mindsets, Banjo is in the hands of the folks who made the bear who he is today. They know what they are doing. What you're experiencing is NFB, as in the same thing that happened when Nintendo changed the graphics from normal Zelda fare to Wind Waker. OMG! Nintend0 suks kause LinK l00kz lik GUmby1! rolleyes.gif

2) This is REAL innovation, people! You know, something NEW? The same old Mario Kart with a new controller is NOT innovative, but somehow people saw it as such. At least Banjo is still in "Banjo Universe" interacting with Banjo-stuff and characters that fit, new and old. DK fans, for example, were boned when Nintendo took back the franchise after we got Jungle Beat. It's like taking Banjo and putting him in Candy Land, but alone and with no references to anything Banjo. Banjo fans have it GOOD... Banjo Banjo Banjo.

3) Can you people PLEASE tell me what's so freaking bad about having more gameplay in a Banjo game? I loved the duo of N64 classics, but they lacked action for the most part. Ghoulies is how I'd expect an (old) Banjo game to have been without all of the collecting. So, they took out the lame bird-holding FPS sections and added a cool custom vehicle game mechanic to supplement the platforming. Looks Hella-Fun.

4) It's freaking RARE! You know there will be tons of dirty references, in-jokes, beautiful graphics, classic Rare-love for detail, engaging gameplay, and humable music- So, why are you (almost) crying into your chips?!

5) Where's the love for VP: Trouble in Paradise? biggrin.gif And where's my Flanmingo?

What Dry Bones is trying to say is that he is very disappointed in what Rare has done for the new Banjo game. Myself and several others on Rare-Extreme all agree that the direction that Rare took Banjo-threeie in was not a good idea. There is a HUGE difference between changing something that has an established platform to it and then innovating it and expanding upon that idea with a few tweaks and such, and taking a established platform and transforming it into something else that resembles a pale shadow to its former self.

Its like taking Final Fantasy and turning it into a sports game....Obviously not too many people are going to be too happy about it.

Banjo was NOT the game that Rare should have messed around with when they came up with this awful idea. They should have at least tried that approach with a different game and spared Banjo.

Rare took an established IP and ##### it over into Plastic Dork Hero. Now they are doing it to Banjo. This is inexcusable. If you want to innovate as a company you should have done your stupid innovations and made the characters different. Why soil the name of PD and Banjo with games that have almost nothing to do with the past games.
Most people WANTED another platformer, where are the good old fashioned platformers nowadays? Rare used to be the kings of this genre.
Stop ruining the legacy of your old characters and invent some other characters to carry these new ideas. (BLEEP)!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

"We still have a chance"? Didn't you post "this game sucks, (BLEEP) you Rare" in every Banjo-related thread yesterday? Not those words but sort of.
richjohnny
Dude, Banjo is fine the way it is. All because they chucked in vehicles you've given up on Rare?

Dude: ITS STILL BANJO. NO MATTER WHAT HAPPENED.
billyandrocky
I did post those Rare-Fan, But I also posted something different in the "Banjo Kazooie: Nuts and Bolts" topic. Its not still Banjo richjohnny, they completely changed the game into something completely different. 2 seconds of platformering where you jump on a crate. Fun.

Ha, didn't they do that with Mario Hoops 3 on 3? tongue.gif

I SO called this years ago. I KNEW that "fans" would freak out and clutter the internet's street corners with signs that claim that the world is going to end, while normal people either:

A) Try to calmly talk about how great it is in actually, only to get bitten and hit with their nutter's sign.

B ) Try to be enthuastic with your other happy-to-see-it friends somewhere else, only to have a nutter jump into your group to ruin it with "OMG! R@r r t3h Nooe S3g@! Dat B sUKs" So your parade has been ###### on...

C) Play it like Zenek, and lay low for awhile and let the crazy's have their forum riot. However, if whining turns into TROLLING, I may have to draw out my Hammer...

Nuts & Bolts looks awesome. As does VP: Trouble in Paradise. If you don't like it, that's cool, but please act like a human while expressing your opinions, ok?

-Zenek
PS. I'm a reasonable and nice guy, but I freakin' swear if "billyandrocky" was physically standing near me and continously talking like that, I'd be annoyed to the point to taking a shovel to (his?) head. Yeah, spam Rare's e-mail box. That'll stop them, doofus. *sigh* I'm off to "lay low" some more...

More platforming than "2 seconds of platformering where you jump on a crate".

Banjo began its life on the 360 as a remake of the original game for 18 months of development. Then Rare scrapped it. And why? Because the gameplay of the original Banjo doesn't work on the 360. Banjo's gameplay was that because of hardware limits. Rare maxed the 64 out. And now they are doing the same with Nuts and Bolts. They are maxing the 360 out with beautiful graphics, music and yes, gameplay. And you can't say this isn't a Banjo game. Banjo is Rare's baby. They could put Banjo in a Resident Evil type environment and it would still be a Banjo game.

Just think, at least we don't have to use some Wiimote rip-off to play it. We're blessed to get 3 amazing Rare games in one year. 2008 - YEAR OF RARE

I don't think music is what they're maxing the 360 out with. tongue.gif

I've never been this upset over a game. This is THE game of my childhood. I grew up playing this game for hours on end. I did not wait 8 years for some spin-off. I want the same old style of gameplay the old Banjo Kazooie games had and a sequel to Banjo-Tooie. Such a disappointment.

This game looks fun, I'll probably buy it, but it is not BK3.
Mako the Irrelevant
Surprising.. I'm so fond of the original banjo games.. This is just too much of a U-turn.

As long as the vehicles do not drown out the classic game play, It should be great. But, from viewing the name... Seems quite unlikely.

We won't know until we play it. Everyone needs to stop being so judgmental. You know you'll buy it.

I'm tired of this bloody war! Listend to the words of Joe!

Okay, Die-hard rare fans who will stick with the bear and bird even if they star in an all new FPS or RPG, please understand where the angry guys like billyandrocky are coming from. Rare has said that only 30% of the game is platforming. It's a shocking change, and I myself can't help but feel disapointed. It looks like a load of fun, but the gameplay changes ARE a tad bit surprising.

Okay, Bloodthirsty goons who say that they are going to kill every member of Rare and rape people who like this game, just listen to this: We have 2 trailers. 11 screenshots. Hold your threats untill you see some more of the game. It does look like a non-banjo game with banjo characters, yes, I know. But at least give Rare a chance to prove themselves. Rare made the first 2 games. Don't forget it.

We are Rare fans. Not Fan boys, but fans. Lets not split into 2 groups and start slinging crap at eachother just yet okay? Give Rare a chance, but also try and understand where your "enemy" is coming from.

Peace out
Mr.Patch
We can all agree that it's going to be an amazing game. We just can't agree if it's going to be an amazing Banjo game. Once Gregg answers our questions tonight, we should get a little more clarity. For instance, my main question is: Will we be able to explore Spiral Mountain at all? I think it would be really lame if we couldn't walk around Spiral Mountain. But we'll find out some more info soon, so hold your judgments for a little bit longer. cool.gif

I can't believe that people are saying that this game is gonna suck no one can rate it yet until you play the game that's how pros do it the give the game a chance they don't look at a phew videos and pictures and say " OMG this game is horrible ," no they give the game a chance and play it then they rate it. Sure they did change the gameplay, but we might actually like the new gameplay. You can hate the new idea, you can dislike the new gameplay, but you can't rate it till you play it.

What you're experiencing is NFB, as in the same thing that happened when Nintendo changed the graphics from normal Zelda fare to Wind Waker. OMG! Nintend0 suks kause LinK l00kz lik GUmby1! rolleyes.gif
What are you talking about? Nintendo has nothing to do with this. The graphics look beautiful, but the concept of the game looks un-appealing to me.

Innovation? Where is this coming from? "Yeah uhm, let's see...let's put Banjo on a vehical...yeah, that'll work. Hey, while we're at it, let's make it to where 90% of the game is played using vehicals. OH, MAN I'M GOOD!"
All right, I dont know..but, I don't see the innovation out of this. I see a pathetic excuse for trying to be "cool." YAY L3tZ bUiLD ccaARS!!! vRoo0m!!
All in all, I DONT WANT SO CALLED INNOVATION. What ever happened to a Traditional Platformer? Is that out of the question? I guess it is.

3) Can you people PLEASE tell me what's so freaking bad about having more gameplay in a Banjo game? I loved the duo of N64 classics, but they lacked action for the most part. So, they took out the lame bird-holding FPS sections and added a cool custom vehicle game mechanic to supplement the platforming. Looks Hella-Fun.

If it was a portion of the game to customize vehicals, that would be kind of good. But fact is, THE ENTIRE GAME is based around buildng vehicals and using them to progress throughout the game.

4) It's freaking RARE! You know there will be tons of dirty references, in-jokes, beautiful graphics, classic Rare-love for detail, engaging gameplay, and humable music- So, why are you (almost) crying into your chips?!

The title of the game sounds like a Bob The Builder episode, or a Remake of some Rachet and Clank game soon to come to PSP. I love the graphics that this game is having, music is always great, it's just the gameplay I'm worried to death about.

5) Where's the love for VP: Trouble in Paradise? biggrin.gif And where's my Flanmingo?

I liked the first Viva Pinata. I might even get the one for the DS, but I think they are over-doing the Pinata thing far too much. Killer Instinct or Jet Force Gemini, please?

I talked to Joe earlier about this on the phone. I'm going to give this game... a chance. Lets not have Rare become as bad as the Sonic fandom. I ask for everyone's forgiveness for all of my obnoxious, bloodthirsty comments.

People really need to stop being prejudice. I love what the game is going to be. Rare DID evolve Banjo. In the first two along with almost every other playformer, they force you to do one thing to get the objects. Instead Rare thought, you can spend hours trying to get a jiggy without a vehicle, or get it in minutes while using one. Or you can try to get your bigass plane into this little cove, or get out of it and make several jumps as Banjo and Kazooie alone and get it in seconds.

Rare evolved the series, and they did a pretty damn good job. And if you still don't like it, wait for Banjo 4. Don't say a game is horrible when you haven't even played it.
Radski
After accessing my IE the other day I saw a link to the new Banjo game and promptly clicked the link, with my senses fully stimulated, this was something I have waited on for many many years now. I am now 35 years of age and played many iterations of the game numerous times on many different machines, after the web page had loaded up (Gamespot) the first thing that struck me was the name..esp.. NUTS AND BOLTS, UH OH, cue a little pine and whimper as this was it I thought this is gonna make my day, a video first of the successor to the classic platformer that many had regarded better than Mario 64 myself included. Even though Mario 64 was a truly class game with so many fantastic elements Banjo 1&2 had it all and more plus humour. Then it happened...on loading up the video my heart SANK Deeper than the Titanic.......
This was the end of mine and millions of other fans` love affair with the once beautiful franchise, they decide the way forward is to collect vehicle parts and custom build a transport machine of differing types to get you around the levels, no no no no this just isn`t right and is certainly not what this classic should become, a 3D Automania (Spectrum 48k, Google it). RARE decided and to quote “Need to Push the game to the next Level” BOLLOX!!!! My first response was and still is, THIS IS, AND HAS ALWAYS BEEN AND ALWAYS SHOULD BE CLASSIC PLATFORMING ACTION PERIOD!!!.
RARE I feel so strongly about this I don`t normally post on these forums but I am absolutely gutted to the core to see what you are doing to the game, this game should be 10% Vehicles 90% Platforming....it should be a little bit on the side shall we say and not a major part of it. Now I know that so many fans feel the same way I have read thousands of posts expressing their dismay and frustration about where you are taking the game, DON`T do this guys...you talk about a new fan base well prepare to lose most of your old if you continue down this road. Take time out and understand your fans and their views WISE UP!!!!.
This is not a 50/50 split amongst fans this is distraction on a MAJOR scale...Do the right thing RARE, give us what we want, I myself and millions of others are begging you..

Maybe RARE aren`t the team they once were ..since losing most of theie coders (Which was a long time ago) maybe we should accept mediocre crap from them and never voice our opinions..

The problem I see is that maybe they don`t know how to improve on the 3D platforming front NINTENDO...made Zelda Twilight Princess and it was Excellent..no change in gamplay or PACE....

Wake up if you think this will be anything but CRAP.....

And I loved the first 2 Banjo games.....Jim Morrison (The Doors) "This is the END, my only friend the END"

Twilight Princess was more of the same thing. But look at Windwaker. It's almost exactly like what Rare has done with Banjo. New image and new way of transportation. As for the gameplay, I think it's fair to say it needed an upgrade. This is the next generation of gaming. You can't just give a game shiney graphics and call it a day. Because if it doesn't offer unique gameplay, how could it sell? I've said this before but look at Grabbed by The Ghoulies. It was a standard platformer that screamed Rare. But it didn't sell. It didn't sell because people could get Zelda or Mario on a cheaper system. Xbox isn't really the market for those kinds of games. Taking Banjo away from the same-old-same-old will keep the franchise fresh while hopefully apealing to the Xbox 360's audience. We want online and we want a deep campaign that will give us something to talk about. Rare's in the right this time.

Well that's you not the entire world judging Wind Waker. I think Wind Waker was a great game and I also think what Mr.Patch is saying makes perfect sense just because Rare changed Banjo and Kazooie's gameplay doesnt mean it's going to suck. Just realize that Rare doesnt work for Nintendo anymore. I think Rare is doing better of with Microsoft I mean I can't imagine Rare's games being played with the Wii mote ( except Perfect Dark Zero ) so just try the game and see if you like it or not.
Radski
LOL ...I was playing RARE stuff when they were Ultimate (Play the Game) Speccy Days...How can you possibly say that Rare have improved un Microsoft PLEASE!!!! this is absurd

Grabbed By the Ghoulies ..Horrible, Poor.

PDZ...Awful AI, Terrible Lvl design.

Kameo...I liked it, wasn`t a Classic but a solid platformer none the less.(Too much messing around with different Chars they should of had one char and given you upgrades as you progressed.

Pinata...Mmmmmm ok for the Kids but there easy to please, another rough 78% game.

Looks a bit thin now doesn`t it now lets look at the...
N64 Catalogue

Goldeneye...Classic
Banjo 1 and 2...Classics
Perfect Dark....Classic
Diddy Kong Racing...Very Good
Killer Instinct...Good
Star Fox Adventures (GCube)...V Good

Shall I continue.......

Oooops how could I forget DKC.........Classic

Rare hasn't made a ground breaking that has sold like a ground breaking game. Because the 360's primary audience enjoys FPSs and sports games. If Viva Piñata had been a Wii title, Rare would have the sales to indicate they've made a ground breaking game.

Having said that I personally feel that Rare's games have not decreased in quality or enjoyment. I will be honest and say I wasn't a big fan of DK64 or Starfox Adventures or even PDZ. But Piñata, Ghoulies, Kameo and CLAR have prooven to me that Rare can still make great games that appeal to me like BK, BT, PD, 007, and DKC(s) did back then and still to this day.

Every development team has their hits and misses. Rare just seems to be getting more misses because besides their fanbase, there is no real audience for their games on the 360. Right?

P.S. I loved Ghoulies and I loooved Windwaker. Just because it's not what you'd expect doesn't have to mean it won't earn your respect. And yes, that totally rhymes.

I understand where your coming from with that Patchy. Rare hasn't had a hit top selling game since the N64 years, but despite what everyone is saying about them now, I think Rare might finally be regaining their momentum a little bit with Banjo. I mean this is the sort of game that they should have started working on right after Ghoulies. As much as I love the 360 I am not really a fan of FPS(way more into RPG) it still makes up for it by having a rather diverse library of games unlike the first xbox, which was mostly just halo and Tom Clancy shooters or whatever.

I loved DK64 and played that all the time back in the 6th grade, and I wasn't too impressed by StarFox Adventures because to me it seemed like Rare just cookie-cutted Zelda too much. PDZ was the first game I got for my 360 however I was very disappointed by it, but I thought Kameo was actually well made despite how they made it kind of hectic with all the different gameplay styles.

I was not a fan of Viva pinata and never will be. I rented the game after it came out and it just didn't click with me. To me it felt like Rare was trying to hard to make a family game that kids could play instead of making a game that appealed to everyone, but thats just me.
Mako the Irrelevant
This conversation will continue to be allowed for the time being, but keep it civilized folks. I can see the tension swelling.

In my honest opinion, rare is doing what they feel best to keep on chugging along, whether it depresses us long time fans or not. They must do whats in their best interest, lest they be had and done away with. We wouldn't want this now would we?
Duckhunt128
I decided that I changed my mind about this game. At first I was very offended by what they shown us but I thought about it and checked out all the videos and and screenshots and read about it in my GameInformer. I changed my mind about this game and I think it will be awesome. I will admit though I am disappointed in that Rare put too much of an emphasis on vehicles but I do think it looks very fun to design a car and drive around the levels and shoot down things.

I think this and some other AAA Microsoft games like Fable 2(which looks like a very beautiful and thrilling RPG) will make this a very good Holiday season.
Radski
Mr Patch you loved Ghoulies and Wind Waker Hey I`m a man of each to their own but man
these 2 were poor, esp Ghoulies I bought it and finished it, it was poor....

TeamXbox 10/27/2003 3.8 out of 5 76.0%
GameSpot 10/24/2003 6.5 out of 10 65.0%
GMR Magazine 1/1/2004 6 out of 10 60.0%
Electronic Gaming Monthly 1/1/2004 4.67 out of 10 46.7%
Game Informer 12/1/2003 4.5 out of 10 45.0%
XBN Magazine 12/1/2003 4 out of 10 40.0%

Enjoyments of such mediocrity only serves as acceptance for substandard software

Personally I`m not taking it, look at GTA since the 3rd game the system hasn`t changed and GTA4 has broken every single record in video game history the past is littered with these facts they don`t need to change Banjo is my whole point if sales weren`t good enough and they feel the need to change things then for sure add a little sandbox into the game and new elements just dont tamper too much you`ll fail simple.

Hudsons House of Whorrers
I think you're forgetting the basic premise of Video Games. iD Software took a gamble when they made Wolfenstein 3D and look how that turned out.

Alot of people stuck their noses up at the change that Conker went through, and now we have Conker's BFD to remember and cherish.

Viva Pinata got slammed for being to kid oriented, and now we have some people looking forward to VP2 more then Banjo.

Everything in life requires risk for reward boys and girls. If I trust any Game development company, it's Rare.
The Dorian
I think it looks awful...but thats just me...

That being said...I really...REALLY want this game to be good..im not expecting amazing..not anymore from Rare..so my expectations are so low for this game now if anything turns out to be decent I'll be very happy.
Running With Scissors
I wish people would stop being so narrow-minded and realise Rare's always done crazy stuff like this in their games to keep them fresh.
The graphics in PDZ.
The multiplayer in Conker: Live and Reloaded.
I can't think of anymore. But that's not the point. The point is you all cry over Banjo and make out you're all major fans of the series yet you'll happily slag it off when you see some change. If you were clever enough to show some patience and see how it turns out instead of "almost crying" when you saw the trailer and show an open mind then the chances are you're not gonna be depressed when you play the game.
Grow some balls.

It's responses like these that make me not respect anyone who likes the game. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion you know, some of us have legitimate reasons to hate it. For example, Platformers are my favorite kind of game, driving games are my least favorite kind of game. Rare takes the platforming formula and destroys it and puts it into a driving game. THEREFORE I hate the new game.

If you like the new game, then that's fine. I don't give two f***s. Go have fun playing it. But don't call everyone who hates the new game a retarded whiner who isn't a true Rare fan because he doesn't absolutely love EVERYTHING Rare has made

What the? It posted my message 3 times! Sorry people.

Okay Billy RWS...this is a warning now don't let this turn into a flame war over this...

Anyways I understand what you're saying RWS but...

The graphics in PDZ kinda sucked

The Multiplayer in CLAR kinda blew as well...

Not very good points...like I said, I think it LOOKS bad. Im not saying it is bad...I have no idea if it is bad....no one does...all we can do is judge on how it looks...however given rares recent track record...doesen't look realllllll good for them.

Aye for real

What I meant that Rare was doing better of with Microsoft I simply meant that Rare has some great games for Microsoft ( this is just my opinion.)

Grabbed by the Ghoulies has good gameplay and a cartoonish story line which made it feel it like a Rare game.

Conker Live and Reloaded had great multiplayer gameplay and great graphics for an Xbox game. It was sad that some multiplayer modes were left behind in Conker's Bad Fur Day.

Kameo had outstanding gameplay, and an incredible story line.

Perfect Dark Zero, I admit it had a weird story line, but had a great multiplayer experience ( until better shooting games came out.)

Viva Pinata, making your own gardens and fill it with the pinatas you love. Whats not to like about the game?

Jetpac Refulled had many levels and you can even play the classic version.

I think Rare is still making great games even thou the work for a different company. I believe that Rare is going to make Banjo-Kazooie Nuts and Bolts and Viva Pinata Trouble in Paradise great games that we will injoy.

Be fair; Viva Pinata and Kameo were at least above average

Ok I`ll give you Kameo..

I actually enjoyed ...it could of been a classic but they got too many aspects wrong...

Still no where near the quality from yesteryear...they lost too many devs thats my view
