Full Version: What Do You Think Of The New Banjo?
Rare-Extreme Forums > Game Talk > Banjo-Land
Jimbo AK-47
So we've had a few topics about this, but not a poll. What will you vote for?
Linkman
I voted that it looks great. I'm excited by the possibilities that the different vehicles offered, I am however, slightly apprehensive that it will lose some of its platforming charm. I'm sure Rare can pull of a game that'll please fans of Banjo Kazooie though.

Why's this pinned?

I'll rent it to see what they've done with it

...the hell? I could have sworn I posted in this thread.

Anyway, so far I'm not digging it, I just can't comprehend why Rare keep changing their old franchises for the worst. I don't care if I can make a thousand vehicles in this new Banjo; the 360 is lacking some great platformers right now and Rare go and make vehicle creation the core element of the new Banjo title? Incredible.

I can't wait, I'm gonna buy it. Hopefully at JB they have one of those 'trade 3 games and get banjo 3 free' deals goin on, like they do with a lot of new games. I have some games in my drawer that I never play anymore.
Mr.Patch
It finally let me vote!

It's going to be an amazing game. I think 2008, if Microsoft actually acknowledges Rare, will be Rare's biggest year since the N64 days with DK64 and Perfect Dark.
Juno
Looks OK, not as good as I expected.

But I will buy it for sure. I love the Banjo-Kazooie series. wink.gif

Mr.Patch
I don't there be a line for the game in my neighborhood, but I'm gonna wait for it at midnight anyways!

Thanks for the link, interesting stuff.

My opinion currently is very mixed. Although i'm happy that Rare is trying to innovate rather than regurgitating the same formula that's been around since Super Mario 64. HOWEVER, the game arguably treads too far away from its platformer roots, and this so-called "evolution" of the genre isn't really an evolution at all. Platformers have had vehicle sections in their games for quite some time now, but Rare seems to think making Banjo's new game revolve around these vehicles is new. Not really, we're just doing it more than in other platformers. And if they want to try to use the vehicle customization to defend their evolution of the genre, that won't work either. Ratchet & Clank has had vehicles and vehicle customization for some time now. But even despite everything i just stated, I'm still excited for it. All of our classic platforming is supposed to be held in the game's hub world Showdown town. But the area is absolutely massive so that makes for a lot of places to platform. smile.gif

I wish Rare stuck to their roots and kept the style of the original games. I'm sure Nuts and Bolts will be awesome, the gameplay looks interesting, but still... I'm sure you all know the feeling.

This game is quickly becoming the best game of 2008 in my eyes!

It's still a platformer. Think of it as replacing the transformations for vehicles.
Timberfan
It looks kinda bad because the new character designs are lame, Mumbo is not playable no transformations just stupid vehicles I don't see multiplayer and all the characters have stupid new positions Bottles as a tour guide? mad.gif

It's unfortunate the new art style doesn't click with ALL fans of the series. I however am extremely impressed with the new look and the gameplay mechanics. It's actually quite inspirational. I've always been a big fan of the patchwork art style(hints Mr.Patch)and Im thrilled it's being used all over this game. Gives Banjo a better feel. And now people can't get away with calling Banjo an average platformer. It has it's own style, it's own gameplay mechanics. I have a feeling Nuts & Bolts will go down as one of the most outstanding and creative platformers of our time.

I didn't like the art style much, nor did I like the level design. I admit they achieved what they wanted to (levels that looked manufactured) but as Mr.Patch said it doesn't click with some and it didn't with me. I didn't like how Nutty acres a peaceful hill/forest type area had big cogs churning around in the background also LOGbox and the Terrerium felt like the same level to me.
