Banjo-Kazooie has always been my favorite game series because of their level design and art style. But Nuts & Bolts just blows that out of the water (the nice, soft, blue water. Mmmmm...). Each game globe contains a piece of art. My personal favorite: Terrarium Of Terror. T.O.T. may be the most beautifully designed level I've ever seen in a video game. It's just plain stunning. Even the rest of the game is stunning. There are very few to no rough patches at all in the game. The characters are all animated and full of life, it's like an interactive Pixar film. It's good. When it goes from day to night in Showdown Town is when you really see how beautiful the game can get. It makes exploring for items and secrets a pleasure. So, what I'm getting at is: Banjo-Kazooie: Nuts & Bolts is definitely Rare's best looking game to date. Period.
The music is fantastic. Absolutely amazing. Again, Terrarium Of Terror seems to offer the best in the music department too. Most of the music has a Danny Elfman feel, while some of it has a calm Viva Pinata sound to it. Now I do love the music in the game, but it is fair to say it's not as epic or memerable as Kazooie or Tooie. But it really is fantastic. Banjo has to be one of the few games I won't play my Zune over. But enough about music, how about the sound effects and such? Well those are spot freakin on. Perfect. Some of the characters like Blubber have different mumble sounds, but they fit and make the game perfect. So what am I rambling on about in this part: The music is great for the game, not as epic as the tunes in Tooie, but pretty damn good.
This is what it all boils down to. The gameplay. We all know it's not a typical Banjo game in any way. You make cars and you drive them. That's as advanced as it gets really. No Kazooie breathing fire or shooting fire eggs or doing a screw attack. But the gameplay fits. I loved Banjo-Kazooie and I looooved Tooie, but Nuts & Bolts really works best with the new gameplay mechanics. I love them. I've been having a great time trying to figure out how to solve some of these brutal puzzles, and some still have me stumped. But it's amazing. I definitely say Nuts & Bolts lives up to the Banjo name and really needed an upgrade from the past games. So yea. What I'm trying to say is: Don't let the blocky cars and bikes fool you. It's Banjo-Kazooie. It really is. And it's f-ing brilliant.
Overall Banjo-Kazooie: Nuts & Bolts is an amazing game. I mean it's not perfect. No game really is. But it's pretty damn close to perfect. I'd be bold as to say Tooie > Nuts & Bolts > Kazooie. Yup. That's just my personal opinion of the game. Fantastic. If you don't own it, throw your 360 at the wall because you're killing it by depriving it of such beauty.
