Full Version: H1N1 is the most over-exaggerated disease of all time

How do I start? Well for one, I got the virus since Saturday, then was officially diagnosed with it on Monday.

H1N1 is like the regular influenza. Maybe the symptoms vary in all people, because some got it worse than I do. I only got severe cold symptoms (stuffy nose, can't hear anything, throat hurt, etc...), physical weakness (sore all over and can't move), got dizzy (might I add delusional), and had a high fever of 40 degrees Celcius (that's 104 degrees Fareinheit). Good thing, a common flu med can ease the symptoms. But since it's incurable, I have to isolated in my room from everybody else for a week (I have school and I'm not having fun missing school days).

Maybe I just had it good, because there are those people that have to be hospitalized and everything because of H1N1. I didn't. Then again, the symptoms vary. Who knows; maybe when YOU get H1N1, hope to dear God that the symptoms aren't too severe. I can understand why it kills people (just like the regular flu can). So yeah, I can't understand why the news media make a HUGE deal out of it. H1N1 is VERY similar to influenza and people shouldn't be panicking going "OMG SWNE FLUUU PUT ON MASKS!!!1".

Then again, since I'm a menace to everyone's health now, my whole family is putting on masks, and I repeat yet again, that the symptoms vary to everyone. I feel bad that I can't really come in contact with anybody, but I have to admit, it's really fun to fake coughs at my brother. "OMG GET AWAY FROM ME -runs-"

I forgot to mention, coughing is BAAAAD. Real bad. That's something that nobody can get away with. tongue.gif
richjohnny
I had some sort of flu in the past few weeks, and I'm just getting over it.

Had a week off work, that wasn't too bad.

I was assuming it was swine because Australia is getting it terribly, Mum had a flu shot and she's got the disease too. I dunno. And it wasn't a cold because I had more symptoms than just a runny nose.

H1N1 is Glandular fevers bitch

Oh man you don't want that. That disease gives you hot flushes for 5 years.

It's a kissing disease so I don't have to worry about that (DELIBERATE PWNAGE).

Why would any viral-ridden person kiss anyone? That's disgusting lol. Almost every disease known to man is spread through saliva. Technically, a common cold can be a "kissing disease." Or oral herpes. tongue.gif I'm not gonna go any further.

My ex girlfriend had glandular fever, ###### was so hawt, man.
Then she caught menegitis c. OH MY GOD I'VE NEVER BEEN SO HARD IN MY LIFE.
Then she caught ME (lack of fatigue) and she was always nackered walking to town and back, poor girl.
Cute though.

Didn't stop me kissing her either, hell no. I never caught that crap from her neither.

Then I'm guessing you got lucky, or you have a strong immune system. I wouldn't kiss anyone in the mouth if they are sick because I'm just afraid to catch something. Not to be selfish. Besides, this year, I am physically weak and I have some type of anemia that screws with my immune system as well. It's not so bad, but I am being subtle. I never got sick so much in my life. I'm eating more, getting enough sleep, yet I'm still not quite well.

In addition, the eczema I have got strange. If anyone touches my skin now, I get a rash within a few minutes. When my elbow stays on a school desk, I get a rash. Before, it was just, if I want to play my Viola, I get a rash on my neck. If I want to put on any jewelry, I get a rash. Oh well, eczema sucks, but I lived with it.
Darkain
I only read the first sentence that you made. Keep in mind, you're in your mid-late teens, and you're healthy.

If you're old, or have immune system problems, you'll get very sick very fast, besides, when it comes to a virus, it can change and adapt and get worse.

Although I agree, like most things reported on the news, its overblown.

LOL having iron-deficiency is not what I would regard as healthy. tongue.gif I got that early this year. I would agree with you that I am almost fully healthy (without the swine flu, etc). But I guess if I keep taking care of myself the way I am, the anemia will be like nothing. Eczema is honestly not so bothersome anymore since I know what to do when I get rashes and all. Since this year (thank God), they have been going away by themselves. happy.gif So I'm heading on the healthy track again.

I have to thank God also I'm not fat. My life would suck.

Would you have known you had all those problems such as iron-deficiency if your doctor hadn't told you that you did? It's all a mind game to me.

My doctor diagnosed me the next day, after I passed out infront of everyone in the Orchestra Room, and might I add, severe fatigue weeks before it happened. BEST EXPERIENCE EVAR!!1

Let me stop you right there Lucy, Imma let you finish but BIRD FLU WAS THE MOST OVER EXAGGERATED DISEASES OF ALL TIME!
Running With Scissors
Oh he didn't.

But yeah, Lucy, I think I was just really lucky.

I'm pretty unhealthy myself, I have eczema, allergies to chicken and egg (makes my throat swell up and a big build up of saliva), my hands shake a lot (it's not like I'm hungover thing either). I get stupid depression a lot which is annoying, especially as that was partly to do with not getting the grades i wanted in college.
Oh and i have this amazing thing about my hands where if they're in the sunlight for too long (UV light), they started to get these tiny puss-filled spots which spread.

Juicy.

I'm not planning on getting the vaccination. I'm pretty much immune to any H1N1 strain, until it mutates. And just like any other flu, after you get it once, it won't happen again for a long time (hopefully).

I'm coming down with the flu, though I don't believe it is swine flu. What were the signs you noticed before you knew it was official Lucy?

I don't have health insurance so going to the doctor or walk in is out of the question.

I don't have health insurance so going to the doctor or walk in is out of the question.

It comes in suddenly. It takes about 2 days for the virus to incubate, so at first, no symptoms are present. It catches you by surprise really.

The symptoms I first felt in the morning were dizziness, sudden nausea, weakness (and I mean, almost everywhere, not being able to walk properly, falling down, etc...), and a slight headache. Once it progresses, you should have a pretty high fever, weakness in all parts of the body (so you won't be able to move around much, or not at all), and the whole place looks like it's spinning so you start feeling like you're in another world. tongue.gif The first day and second day are the worst. Oh yeah, I forgot the symptoms of a common cold. It always starts with what seems like a common cold, but if you get the other symptoms like the above, congratulations, you have Influenza A with the H1N1 strain. You'll be in bed for about 4 days.

What I suggest if you do have H1N1 is just drown it; drink lots of liquids. Preferably hot tea. And don't get out of bed, or you'll get all dizzy again, and the fever will get worse. You can get the TAMIFLU (it's a prescribed medicine) so that you will be sick for a less number of days. Unfortunately, you're gonna have to take it within 48 hours, or it's too late and it won't work. It was too late for me to get the medicine, so I had to deal with the whole thing. BTW, when you're in bed, although you'll feel cold, obviously, don't cover yourself with anything. What you want to do is well, cool down the fever. tongue.gif My fever hit 106 F and it sucked. Just sleep it through. It'll go away, but after the H1N1 is gone, you're still gonna have bad coughing, sore throat, muffled ears,etc... Basically, you'll still have a a very bad cold after H1N1 strain is gone.

I hope you don't have it. sad.gif Even if you do have it though, Flu with the H1N1 strain is not so bad. It's about the same. Only you don't throw up. I have people that have it worse than me; a friend that was in charge of an important Orchestra event caught it yesterday, and she has been vomiting and had a worse fever than I and she's in the hospital. The symptoms vary from person to person, so you can only hope it's not too bad.

Edit: Another thing; my family doesn't have health insurance either, but luckily, we have a very kind family doctor. All he did after me being sick for 3 days was officially diagnose me for Influenza A with the H1N1. You don't have to worry about going to a doctor. If you had the flu before, I'm sure you'll be able to deal with this flu.

Edit #2: You might have BAD mood swings/easily irritated. It sucked. I screamed at everybody and then went back to being docile. It was scary. mellow.gif Seriously speaking, it is a symptom lol. tongue.gif I just checked and it turned out that it did count as something.

I've got some massive nose drainage as well as a lot of 'lung butter', it's 4 in the morning and I just woke up, so far It just feels like the common cold. We'll see what tomorrow holds I reckon, though staying in my room is out of the question, It is far too dusty in there and will simply exacerbate the situation even more.

Thanks for the info, time to take another dose of Nyquil.
Hudsons House of Whorrers
Colds (*******) suck man. There are so many strains it's impossible to cure so it's almost like it evolved to be annoying.
Mako the Irrelevant
Well, I believe it was just the common cold, No swine flu for me! I'm already feeling better, just had a lot of congestion and a lot of lung butter.

All good now. Thanks again for the info though Lucy.

What is "lung butter"? I never heard of the term.

Flem and gunk you get in your lungs, usually brownish green with black spots. Not very pleasant. Usually in smokers.

Hence why I'm dropping cigarettes, not worth it dudes.

So my mom who is a CMA had a patient the other day who was tested positive for Influenza A(in other words saying it was likely they had swine flu). Fast forward to today when my mom is now sick. Shes saying it seems like Influenza A so I'm probably gonna be sick soon....
Normally I wouldnt care and would be more like "Bring it on sickness" because to me it sounds like a slightly longer version of my horrible 24 hour flu bug I got last holiday season(and then gave to everyone because Christmas is about sharing =3) but with me still being new to college and dont know how hard it will be to keep up after missing a week or however long it will take. =/
